Archbishop Thomas Logue of Austin, Metropolitan of the Western Rite of the Eastern Orthodox Church in America, Chrismated (confirmed) and gave First Communion to a total of 22 persons on the weekends of June 20th (3), 27th (10) and July 11th (9). The catechumens studied the Orthodox Catechism from September 2019 until Holy Saturday 2020 in preparation for being presented to the Bishop for Chrismation.
Metropolitan Thomas was assisted by Presenter Fr. Jerry Galaviz and by Fr. Steven Davis. The ceremony took place during the Divine Liturgy of St. Tikon and was accompanied by some lovely music from a small choir.
The confirmations normally are performed during the Easter season but were delayed this year due to the COVID-19 which caused an order from the Governor of Texas to limit the size of gatherings to 5 people. Once the order was changed to allow gatherings of up to 50 people, the confirmations went ahead. In order to keep the attendance at the prescribed size, the ceremonies were spread over 3 weekends.
Chrismation and First Communion usually is a part of the Sacrament of Holy Baptism of Children and Adult Converts to The Orthodox Church who have not been validly Baptized.
